Credit Acceptance - Disrespect US Military members
We had a car financed through Credit Acceptance at the time my son went into the military. If you didn't know this, now ya do....there are laws called Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) that relieve enlisted and deployed soldiers from some of their financial obligations in order to serve our country.
We were unaware of this at the time he enlisted so we let them take the car back. Once we knew about his legal rights regarding this, they were informed of his military status in writing with a copy of his "orders" from the military. They then sent a letter saying that his interest rates had been reduced due to the federal law that states they have to. We didn't still have the car!!
I have called repeatedly and been told their legal dept is reviewing it and we would receive a letter regarding the outcome. It's been six months and still nothing. I called again this morning to, again, be given the run around. I am now dealing directly with the bureaus to have his credit reflect his account status properly, since CA refuses to follow Federal Laws and change it themselves.
I am confident it will be resolved, as Most organizations Support our military rather than take advantage of it. I guess Credit Acceptance isn't one of those companies. However, the law isn't optional.
I would caution you against using their services simply due to their lack of ethics and disrespect to our service members. Shame on you, Credit Acceptance!!
Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Odd that your son would enlist and go off without making arrangements concerning the car payments. What was he thinking would happen when the payments weren't made?
